Love Is Trivial Except When Found

He stepped onto the bridge. Should he be there or not? He's afraid. The bridge is not as safe as it looks. But he's not only afraid of that. He's afraid of the other memories that plague him. That one memory particularly. Neku kept picturing him leaning over the railing, looking down. He was staring at the water. It was calming but still kept to reality enough for him to look depressed.

He looked at his face. Tears of some kind of sorrow were rolling down his cheeks yet he couldn't tell the one that stood before him. He was afraid of his reaction. Would he not love him anymore? Would he just walk away?

"What's wrong?"

"...I can't... You have to figure it out for yourself. I'm not capable of telling you. But I'm sure you've guessed it already and you're more than likely right."

"...No. NO! YOU'RE NOT HIM! You can't p-possibly be hi-..."

"I-I'm so s-sorry..."

"Wh...How could you do this to me, Neku? I believed you all those times you told me you were not Zero!
And then you tell me you are?! Why??!! Why would you do such things to all those people?"

"You couldn't possibly understand. I'm sorry."

"But that's the problem; you don't want me to understand!"

"That's right, I don't. Because if you do get involved, you'll be hurt in some way I wouldn't be able to bear.

. . .

"Fine."

And just like that, he walked away.

That was the last time Neku saw him. In the middle of the next night at around 4 in the morning, Neku recieved a phone call.

"Hello?" Neku could hear gusts of wind in the background and roars of waves.

"Neku, I'm sorry I wasn't able to understand you before. But now I do. I thought I c-could... I- I love you. I guess emotions do cloud up logic.

Goodbye, Neku. Don't miss me."

"Wait! Don't go. Don't do it!"

"I'm just going to get hurt in the long run and then, like you said, you won't be able to bear it. I'm just making it easier for the both of us. So why?! Why the hell should I not do it?!"

Goodbye! ---"

Because I can't be Zero anymore.

The book says the third one is harder than the fourth one. I would have to agree with Simon Singh, becuase the fourth one is just plain Vigenere cipher... I also found out that people who were on the email list from Simon Singh during the competition got hints from him... so not fair. Oh well. I feel as though that if he was able to throw Latin at us out of no where, he might throw other languages at us. Now that I think about it, the only reason he might have chose Latin for this cipher was because it was a Caesar shift cipher. So it was in the original language. Does that mean the fourth (Vigenere) cipher would be in French?! Oh no, Katie, help!
